Public Works Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker
The City of West Columbia is accepting applications for the position of Backhoe Operator. Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a Class "C" Ground Water & Class II Collections License within three years, have a valid Texas Drivers License, and High School diploma or GED. In addition to backhoe operation, duties will include water and sewer line repair, street repair, meter reading, mowing and mechanical maintenance. Salary of up to $20 per hour is dependent upon experience and licenses.

Public Works Maintenance/Laborer
Applications are being taken for general maintenance/laborer positions. Duties range from building maintenance, mowing, water and sewer line repairs, post hole digging, ditch cleaning, pot hole patching, etc. , must successfully pass physical and drug test, background check and must possess valid driver's license. Benefits include employee health insurance including dental and vision, 2:1 retirement contributions, paid vacation, sick and holidays, and uniforms. The City of West Columbia is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for full-time Communications Operator. Shift work is required, and the candidate must have the ability to work under pressure. Required skills include typing, operation of radio, telephone, and related communications equipment. Strong communication skills and clear diction are required. Experience in public safety function, data entry and filing are preferred, but not required. Selected applicants must be able to meet all TCOLE licensing requirements for telecommunications operator.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Must have a high school diploma or GED; minimum of 18 years of age; valid Texas Driver’s License; no family violence convictions; no class A misdemeanor of felony convictions; no class B misdemeanor conviction within the last ten (10) years; not ever been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of a B misdemeanor; not been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for a B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years from the date of the court order. Only those applicants determined to be the best qualified will be contacted to proceed in the selection process. The selected applicant will be required to pass a drug screening test along with a criminal background check. The eligibility list will be good for one year.
