Swim Lesson Registration Form
PRESCHOOL – POLLYWOG (LIMIT 6 PER CLASS)
Child must be 3 years or older. Designed to orient preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to begin working on basic aquatic skills such as enter/exit water, blow bubbles through mouth & nose, go under water, bobbing, front & back glides, retrieve submerged objects and learn to stay safe in the water.
LEVEL I – TADPOLE (LIMIT 8 PER CLASS)
Water Exploration – Children learn basics of swimming: bobbing, floating in prone & supine positions, gliding in prone & supine positions, flutter kick in prone and supine positions, front crawl, basic safety rules and jumping in.
LEVEL II – MINNOW (LIMIT 8 PER CLASS)
Primary Skills – Children should already be able to: float on front & back & put head under water. Children will work on: floating, gliding, flutter kick, front crawl, back crawl, turning over from front to back & back to front, retrieve objects & jumping into water over their heads.
LEVEL III – GUPPY (LIMIT 8 PER CLASS)
Stroke Readiness – Children should already be able to: swim front and back crawl. Children will work on: gliding, front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, retrieving objects, treading water, jumping into deep water, kneeling dive and compact dive.
LEVEL IV – DOLPHIN (LIMIT 8 PER CLASS)
Stroke Development – Children should already be able to: swim front and back crawl for 10 yards, elementary backstroke, and dive in kneeling & compact positions. Children will work on: deep water bobbing, rotary breathing, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, scissor kick and sidestroke, whip kick & breaststroke, intro to turning at wall, treading water with modified scissor, breaststroke, rotary kicks, and diving in stride & standing positions.
LEVEL V – SHARK (LIMIT 8 PER CLASS)
Stroke Refinement – Children should already be able to: swim front and back crawl 25 yards, elementary backstroke 10 yards, scissor kick, whip kick, treading water, and diving. Children will work on: alternate breathing, stride jump, diving from board, long shallow dive, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, breaststroke, dolphin kick and butterfly, open turn on front and back, feet-first surface dive, and treading water.
SWIM LESSON FYI & INFORMATION
- Classes will be Monday – Thursday.
- Rain Out Days: Defined as lightning/thunder or heavy rains. When lightning is seen or thunder is heard, swimmers must exit the pool for 30 minutes from each lightning/thunder. 1st rain day: Swimmers will have a safety day – plan to be there regardless of weather (see #4). 2nd rain day: Make-up will be on that Friday following the rain out.
- The final day of lessons will be a “Show Case Day”! Swimmers will demonstrate all the skills learned.
- Swimmers must attend all 8 days & pass a test in order to receive an advancement certificate.
- Classes are filled on a first come/first serve basis. Phone registrations can not be taken.
- Safety will be covered every day as mandated by First Capitol Swim Academy.
- Sunscreen should be applied 30 minutes prior to entering the water.
- Swimmers need to furnish only a towel.
- Swim goggles are optional; however, snorkel mask and nose clips will not be allowed.
- Parents/Guardians must remain in covered areas and away from the pool sides during lessons.
- Diving Board Time: Only instructors will be allowed to assist swimmers in the water. The diving board is meant to be a fun experience. It is not mandatory. Parents must remain on bleachers or in covered areas.
