Scientific name: Lupinus texenisis

Description and Characteristics: The State Flower of Texas. It is in the pea family (Fabaceae). It has a hard seed coat. To germinate place seed in the freezer overnight, then pour boiling water over them. Plant seeds in the fall. The plant begins to grow before frost and blooms in the spring.

It is a legume. Legumes fix nitrogen in the soil.

Size: 1 foot

Flower: Spring. Blue with white tips.

Requirements: Sun, drought-tolerant.
