1. What is required to hold a garage sale?

Residents in West Columbia are required to obtain a no fee garage sale permit through City Hall. Residents must identify where signs will be posted. No signs may be posted in the city right-of-way (the area commonly between the street and utility pole), state right-of-way, on utility poles or traffic signs or poles, or private property unless authorized by the owner. Signs must be removed 24 hours after the garage sales ends. Filing a Claim

2. What do I need to know about my pets inside the city?

The city requires dogs to have a dog tag and be on a leash when outside the home or fenced in area. Residents must obtain a multi-pet permit for more than four animals. Dog tags & permits are available at City Hall, 512 E. Brazos Ave., West Columbia, Texas. Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm.

1. Where is the municipal (city) court located?

Our address is 512 E. Brazos Ave., in the building behind Prosperity Bank.

2. Do I have to wait until my appearance date to take care of my ticket?

No. You may come in to the court offices any time prior to that date to check on options available.

3. How can I pay for my ticket?

Tickets may be paid online, in the office, by mail or night drop. The court accepts credit cards, money orders, or local checks. The court does not accept debit cards at this time. If paying online, allow two to three extra days for your payment to be processed. If paying by mail, allow at least five extra days for your payment to be received.

For a copy of an accident report, please contact the Records Division at 979-345-5121 or come by the Police Department at 310 E. Clay Street between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

1. How do I establish utility service for an existing residence?

Contact the Utility Department at (979) 345-3123 to establish new utility service. The consumer will need to submit an application with two forms of identification and pay a utility deposit. City services include water, sewer and garbage service. Garbage service includes two trash carts.

2. What is a boil water advisory?

In the United States, our drinking water supply is normally safe. Yet diseases that spread through water remain a very real problem. If something happens that could allow the water supply to become contaminated, a boil water advisory may be issued. There are a variety of reasons for such an advisory. For instance, flooding or drop in water pressure.

3. When a boil water advisory is issued, the following precautions should be taken:

-Boil water vigorously for two minues and let cool before using it.
-Activities that do require boiled or bottled water: mixing baby formula, drinking; washing food served without cooking or baking; adding water to food without cooking or baking; ice making; cleaning food contact surfaces; gargling; eye washing; taking water with medications; and tooth brushing.
