Mayor Pro Tem Dietrich M. von Biedenfeld is serving his fifth term on City Council, first elected in 2012. He teaches ethics, business, law, and supply chain management courses at the University of Houston – Downtown. A third generation member of the Brazoria County community, Dietrich is past President of the Brazoria County Cities Association. He also served as Chair of the Dispute Resolution and Public Contract Law Committees for the American Bar Association and is a member of the Brazoria County Bar Association. He is a VA-accredited attorney.
Dietrich is a long-time member of the International Association of Emergency Managers, Federal Bar Association, NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement, and U.S. Green Building Council. He is also a member of the Columbia Historical and Brazoria County Heritage Museums. He supports education, first responders, and veterans with Life Memberships in the Brazoria County Fair Association, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, National Rifle Association, and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, in which he is legislative chairman. He was a longtime trustee at Columbia United Methodist Church.
