COVID 19 - Letter from the Mayor

A letter from the Mayor

Citizens of West Columbia,

Since March 30th Brazoria County reports 29 cases of COVID 19 in West Columbia. “West Columbia” encompasses everyone in the 77486 zip code from Gayle Estates, Columbia Lakes, parts of Bar X and the City itself.  Thankfully, of those 29 cases, the county also reports 15 recoveries.

Currently, the City has not mandated the wearing of face mask in our businesses and public areas; however, we strongly encourage it. HEB is requiring the wearing of face masks in all Brazoria County stores, including West Columbia. If you do not have a face mask, they will kindly supply you with one on entry. The City supports their decision and any other business that chooses to do so. We ask that you treat their employees kindly as they attempt to carry out this decision. In addition, we ask that you continue to support our local businesses.

The City encourages residents to stay informed of all situations effecting our health and safety. Stay tuned to the City through our web page www.westcolumbiatx.org and our Facebook page West Columbia City Hall. If you are not currently receiving updates from the City by phone, text or email, register for this service on our website. You can find the online registration in the menu under Residents – CivicReady Registration or at the bottom of the page under Quick Links. If you are already registered, you may update your contact information or edit your options.

The health and safety of our citizens is a primary concern. All decisions are made with that guiding principle in mind. Please continue to follow CDC guidelines. We are West Columbia Strong. We will see this through together. In closing, I will use the phrase that I end all messages with “Please stay safe.”

Mayor Laurie B. Kincannon
